Welcome to the Carbon Challenge!
Make Your Pledge
"You must be the change you want to see in the world."
Mohandas 'Mahatma' Gandhi
By now we are all aware that the earth’s climate is changing; we see it in our own localized weather patterns, with drought conditions prevalent across much of the country for example, and we see it repeated nightly in the news highlighting dramatic weather events all around the planet.
There is a huge body of scientific evidence that clearly links these changes to the significant increase in green-house gases within the earth’s atmosphere, with the major influence being the ever-increasing accumulation of carbon dioxide.
Nearly every activity we undertake as individuals results in the release of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere – either directly or indirectly. Typically it is the power or energy consuming activities that have the biggest impact.
Each of us has our own carbon footprint – the amount of carbon dioxide that our energy usage releases into the air.
The ‘Carbon Challenge’ asks us to consider our overall energy consumption, both direct and indirect, and to TAKE ACTION to reduce our carbon footprint.
“Those who have the privilege to know, have the duty to act.”
Albert Einstein
Of course, it’s true that individually, our reductions will have little impact on their own, but it’s equally true that every significant social change is made up of many conscious individual actions.
Take the Carbon Challenge
Think about where you and your household can make some real changes and tick the appropriate box. Make your personal pledge to support the Carbon Challenge. Your commitments will be recorded and become part of a national total for pledged carbon footprint reductions.
I accept the ‘Carbon Challenge’ to reduce my personal greenhouse gas emissions and make a difference by choosing one or more of the following actions:
